Projects
Convinced that sustainable development is built step by step with local institutions and people, GRET takes concrete action directly in the field. It designs and implements development projects using innovative mechanisms to meet people’s needs.
Project design is based on either knowledge of the field and previous partnerships with local actors, or an initial diagnostic mobilizing as many of the actors in the sector and territory concerned as possible.
GRET favors presence-based cooperation with GRET’s field teams to support local actors. Whenever possible, it develops partnerships with local organizations with the aim of strengthening them (NGOs, consultancy firms, public bodies, private companies). It provides the technical, methodological (social engineering, project cycle, monitoring and assessment) and managerial support necessary for proper project operation, and shares its know-how in particular through extensive efforts to document and disseminate this know-how.
GRET systematically addresses post-project issues and outcomes, that is to say that it targets economic, social, environmental and institutional system sustainability. GRET does not have a vocation to manage actions on a permanent basis. Instead, it aims to help elaborate public policies and institutional systems capable of implementing the innovations tested on a larger scale. This is accomplished through lengthy actions, deep roots in countries, and the capacity to leave without breaking ties.
