GRET has been active in Tanzania since 2002, in the fields of agricultural development and commodity chain support.

In 2010, GRET initiated a development project for wholesale food markets in the Mbeya and Rukwa Regions, in partnership with Mviwata. This Tanzanian federation of farmers’ organizations is responsible for implementing the project. The goal is to facilitate the marketing of agricultural products in the zones targeted by the project. To do so, the project plans to build and renovate market infrastructures, support local institutional development in close cooperation with the local authorities, build the entrepreneurial and managerial capacities of economic operators active in the markets, and help establish equal access to market-related activities for all operators without exception.
