| Our Convictions, Our Commitments |
In January 2005, the General Assembly adopted a Charter that formalises GRET’s convictions and translates them into commitments.
Accountability and Transparency
Mobilising public and private funds for socially useful actions, GRET, like all organisations in the social economy, must be accountable for its actions and results before those for whom it works and those who provide it with the means for action.
This transparency and accountability is ensured by various mechanisms:
> The Board of Directors and its permanent observers. GRET is directed by a Board of Directors made up of experts in the various aspects of its action (research, development, management, etc.). Twice a year, notably for the annual report and accounts, this Board of Directors is expanded to include its permanent observers, individuals involved in international solidarity and representatives of our main donors.
> The Scientific Council In 2000, GRET set up a Scientific Council made up of individuals acknowledged for their research for development work. Meeting twice a year, this Council gives its opinion on GRET’s strategic decisions and analyses the quality of its publications. It communicates its opinions to the Board of Directors.
> The Registered Auditor. Like any economic organisation, GRET has a registered auditor verify and certify its accounts.
For field actions:
> Projects include feedback mechanisms to learn the beneficiaries’ assessment of the projects and thereby ensure the relevance and effectiveness of GRET’s actions.
> The terms and conditions of supervision missions include the quality of partnerships and the opinions of beneficiaries
> For most projects, Steering Committees made up of contract authorities, donors and institutions involved discuss progress in actions and operational strategies.
> Assessments and audits are regularly commissioned by our donors. GRET’s Scientific Directorate also commissions assessments and impact assessments of GRET’s actions (at least one per year). All results are transmitted to the technical and financial partners concerned. They can also be obtained on request if needed.
