Who We Are

GRET, a Professional Solidarity and International Cooperation Association

Created 30 years ago, GRET is a professional solidarity and international cooperation association. In Africa, Asia, and Latin America, as well as in Europe, we work to contribute to sustainable, fair development and alleviate poverty and structural inequalities. Our actions aim to increase the incomes of rural and urban populations, reduce their vulnerability, improve their access to quality infrastructures and services, and develop their ability to be heard.

We design and implement field projects, provide expertise, conduct studies, assessments and ap-plied research, and run information and exchange networks. We place considerable emphasis on experience capitalisation and communication for development, in particular through our publica-tions. We contribute to the elaboration of public policies in the North and in the South.
Our activities are organised around six thematic clusters and crosscutting actions:
> Access to Essential Services
> Sustainable Food and Agriculture
> Institutional Development, Actors, Territories
> Information and Communication for Development
> Microfinance and Small Enterprise
> Public Policies and International Regulations

To ensure that our actions are pertinent and efficient, and provide sustainable solutions:
> we bring together committed and competent specialists (economists, sociologists, engi-neers, agronomists, urbanists, etc.) able to mobilise tested technical and methodological know-how in divers socio-economic and political contexts;
> we privilege technical and institutional choices that suit the physical and social situations of the largest number and that make use of local resources; and
> we emphasise, in partnership with local players, (technical, social, and institutional) experimentation and innovation, and building local and national (public, private, and associative) institutions, especially local intermediary organisations.

Our resources come from the projects we elaborate and whose financing we negotiate, from the contracts we obtain, and the services that we provide to public and private development aid players.

We are thus simultaneously a professional NGO, an associative consultancy firm, a delegated practitioner for public service missions, a site for the production and dissemination of knowledge and methods, and an interface between development players and development aid. This multi-facet identity is, according to us, a strength in the face of the current changes in the very notion of development and the renewal of reflections on public action.
