| The Environment and
Rural Development Cluster focuses in priority on supporting family farming,
one of the major international sustainable development challenges. Family
farming is able to meet urban populations' growing needs while at the same
time contributing to improving rural standards of living and assisting poverty
alleviation and the reduction of exclusion. The cluster is active in supporting
farming innovations, improving the economic and social environment in rural
areas, local development, supporting farmers' organisations and rural structuring,
encouraging land tenure security, and decentralised natural resource management.
It implements a dozen multi-annual development and action research projects,
reflects and publishes works on intervention methods for rural areas, conducts
numerous feasibility studies and assessments, and provides technical support.
