Land Tenure and Renewable Resource Management

Outlook : Land Tenure and Renewable Resource Management

Nature exploitation systems are based on rules governing access to and control of land and renewable resources. Disruption of these rules leads to overexploitation of resources and the degradation of hydro-agricultural infrastructures. In the face of new stakes, the rules and authorities need to evolve through new ways of combining local principles and public action.
To promote sustainable management of land and resources based on the aspirations and possibilities of rural populations, GRET undertakes and coordinates research projects, studies, and field activities in 4 domains.

Four Themes:

Environment and Decentralised Natural Resource Management (Latin America, Africa)
Irrigation and Social Water Management (Africa, Asia)
Practices and Land Rights Policies in Rural Africa
Co-Management of Protected Areas
