In Lao-PDR, urban areas face many challenges, one of them beeing wastewater and fecal sludge management. Indeed, without proper sewerage system, households in Vientiane have no facility to treat their wastewater. Although fecal sludge is collected by numerous operators, it is directly discharged in open fields without treatment. Without any regulation nor monitoring, these practices have a negative impact on health and environment. Vientiane municipality supported by its partners (AIMF, SIAAP and AESN) has requested a feasibility study for implementing a fecal sludge treatment plant (FSTP) to WTA-GRET.
