Projet

The overall objective of the proposed action is to contribute to food security through agricultural diversification, creation of off-farm income generation opportunities, community capacity building and mitigating natural hazards and negative effects of crisis (current and future) in the Delta Region of Myanmar. Thereby the project contributes to the MDG Goal 1 "Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger"  by working to decrease "the proportion of people whose income is less than one dollar a day" (Target 1) as well as "the proportion of people who suffer from hunger"(Target 2).
Moreover the project contributes to MDG Goal 3 "Promote gender equality and empower women", by assuring the participation of women in project activities and benefits, and especially guaranteeing a significant representation in leadership positions in the management of the Interest groups and Voluntary Village Committees.
More specifically, the purpose of the action aims at improving and stabilizing the livelihood security in 130 Villages in 4 Townships in the Delta Region through an integrated approach on production, income generation and market access and to strengthen the capacity to sustainable manage their natural resources.

Description of actual services provided by GRET within the project (or assignment) :
Welthungerhilfe coordinates the consortium and each partner organisation is responsible for the implementation of all the activities in its villages. GRET partner MSN takes part to the action by implementing and monitoring activities related to natural resources management.
