The general objective of the action is to improve the food security of rural and urban households by increasing the availability of food products for self-consumption and consumption in zones where there are shortages, and by improving food accessibility for poor rural households. It more specifically aims to increase production in four agricultural regions (Fatick, Kaolack, Kaffrine and Kolda) and commercialization of grain and animal products in (urban and rural) zones where there are shortages.
The action relies on a group of five development practitioners that have been active in these regions for several years, and aims to enhance the skills of each of the organizations and extend the activities underway taking into account the lessons learned in the preceding crop years.
In food commodity chains (millet, cowpea, corn, rice), the project supports production by facilitating access to inputs, advice and financial services for FOs (including storage credit), storage and commercialization. It improves production and processing conditions and the sale of products in income-generating commodity chains (dairy, beekeeping, small ruminants, poultry farming). Finally, it provides umbrella FOs with support to increase their contributions to public policies (advocacy techniques, knowledge of the environment, consultation).
