The action is the continuation of previous projects that helped creating the conditions for a pro- gressive transition from post-Nargis emergency actions to medium and long terms actions in the Townships of Bogale and Mawlamyinegyun.
The main goal of the action is to develop value chains, promoting synergies among actors, strengthening each actor for higher volumes and an improved quality product and promoting the flow of prices and markets information. The main value chains concerned are rice, pulses and vege- tables.
The project also aims at introducing new services for farmers (Management Advice for Family
Farms, credit system at the village level, collective storage, input supply, …) The key outputs of the project are:
Ø 150 villages (in 28 village tracts) have increased their local economy and food security
through a market based approach focused on improvements in the value chain of agricul- ture products as well as through support to entrepreneurs and economic sub-sectors im- portant to vulnerable households at the village and township level.
Ø At least 2,000 rural households have increased local added value through improved credit access, agro-processing and storage facilities,
Ø Township agriculture sector stakeholders and 150 rural communities are supported to cre- ate an enabling environment for selling quality products with high and stable price
