In Malawi, the context is unfavourable to the farmers: heavy dependence on external inputs, reduced rainfall, low purchase price of agricultural products, etc. In March 2013, GRET was commissioned by the Irish NGO Concern Worldwide to lead the launch of the Advisory support to Smallholder Farming (CEF). Its objective is to train 3,600 poor farmers to implement agricultural activities with simple forward-planning and decision support tools with a view to helping them improve the way they conduct their activities and reinforce their resilience in an unfavourable economic context. One lead farmer will assist the training per group of 20 people, with an equal participation of men and women. For two years and a half, GRET will complete four support missions in three districts (Lilongwe, Nkhotakota and Nsanje) and will assist the three district officials and their trained agricultural counsellors.
