Calling on the nutritional services to improve the Asstel dairy value chain

The report on the Stockbreeding, Means of Subsistence and Nutrition training course organised by the FAO from 5 to 7 November 2014 in Dakar (Senegal), with the aim of training the technical staff of development agencies to better integrate nutrition into breeding/rearing programmes, is available online. This workshop met one of the current concerns in the Sahel region and West Africa, which is to increase the impacts of nutrition in development projects and contribute more to reducing malnutrition and improving resilience. Léa Graafland, in charge of managing GRET’s Resanut (Improving the Resilience of Vulnerable Populations as Regards Food and Nutritional Security) project in Mauritania and Guillaume Bastard, GRET’s representative in Senegal, presented the action research carried out as part of the Asstel Dagana project by the IFPRI, the Laiterie du Berger dairy and GRET on the distribution of enriched foodstuffs using milk collection logistics, which served as a practical illustration for the group work.
