Surveys Of The Farming And Food Security Policies In East Africa

GRET has just finalised several surveys on this subject under the Involve project led by the Eastern and Southern African Farmers Federation (ESAFF) in the five East African Community (EAC) countries, in partnership with Mviwata. Their aim was to analyse the policies implemented in the region and make recommendations so that they may better meet the needs of peasant farming. It thus meant providing support to the region’s farming organisations (national as well as ESAFF on a regional level) to enable them to better define their priorities and advocacy strategies for facing up to the political decision-makers.
The principle results were presented and discussed at a regional seminar in Dar es Salaam last September. Each survey deals with one of the five countries, and one other looked at regional policies. They can now be looked up online.
