GRET was mandated by the French Development Agency (AFD) to conduct an action-study to put forward recommendations for the inclusion of nutrition in the rural development and health projects it funds in two countries: Chad and Ivory Coast. After a preparatory phase that started in May 2014, missions were carried out in both countries by multi-disciplinary teams made up of GRET experts and local consultants. Each mission gave rise to a report giving a brief overview of the country’s nutrition context and initial operational recommendations for greater inclusion of actions to fight malnutrition in sectoral projects on health and rural development currently underway. A synthesis phase produced a report providing recommendations to enable the AFD to include nutrition actions in the programming and investigative phases of its future projects in the two sectors concerned. In February 2016, a technical memo was drawn up by GRET and published by the AFD.
