GRET has been active in Yemen since 2008 with rural development and food security projects and women’s support projects, with the backing of the European Union.
In 2010, GRET initiated the Adwer project which aims to build the technical, organizational, institutional and financial capacities of the Mokha Al Zahra women’s association so that it is more able to develop actions benefiting disadvantaged populations in Mokha District. In 2010, training courses were given for the association’s staff, notably covering project management, Internet use, and association law. Literacy classes for 305 women over the age of fifteen were organized. The staff of the kindergarten attended by fifty children was trained in new teaching methods. Scholarships were granted to six young women living in rural areas so they could study at the high school in Mokha. Finally, training courses in embroidery and sewing were given to foster women’s professional integration.
