In the early 2000s, GRET assisted a Mexican association in the Chiapas region, Fundachiapas, with the launch of a sustainable financial service offer (solidarity micro-loans) in urban areas and has since supported the institution-building process for the activities initiated in 2004.

This was the birth of the Semilla Solidaria microfinance institution (SEMISOL), a variable capital public limited company in which GRET acts as shareholder alongside the Blue Orchard and Incofin investment fund associated with a Salvadoran operator, Apoyo Integral.

At the end of 2010, SEMISOL offered a wide range of loans (solidarity loans, personal loans, home loans, education loans) to more than 10,500 clients and had outstanding lending of more than 3.7 million euros. Its network of six agencies is located in an urban and semi-urban zone with a staff of nearly eighty people.
