While it does not conduct advocacy actions alone, GRET joins the collective actions conducted by French and European non-governmental international solidarity actors.
On March 31, following the January earthquake in Haiti, GRET represented Coordination SUD and the European community of NGOs in New York during the Haiti Donors’ Conference. American and European NGOs requested a 10-year commitment from donors to build a new Haiti with the local population and in collaboration with the Haitian government authorities.
While it does not conduct advocacy actions alone, GRET joins the collective actions conducted by French and European non-governmental international solidarity actors. In 2010, GRET mobilized for three international meetings. GRET took part in the 36th meeting of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) in Rome. The reform of the CFS officialized the fundamental role of civil society in food security. Prior to the CFS meeting, a civil society forum was held to set up an internal working mechanism for civil society, and prepare presentations to the plenary session of the CFS. GRET spoke on agricultural price volatility on behalf of Coordination SUD.
One year after the Copenhagen failure, the international community met in Cancun for the 16th climate change conference. GRET, head of Coordination SUD’s Climate and Development Commission, contributed to and carried the position paper by Coordination SUD and the Climate Action Network France, “Putting People at the Heart of the Negotiations.” GRET also attended the 10th Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Nagoya, Japan.
