Biodiversity Conservation and Enhancement project :Rural developement in the Balkan Mountains
|Start date||End date||Budget||Funding|
The "Biodiversity Conservation and Enhancement Project: Rural Development in the Balkan Mountains" project aims to enhance and promote products arising from the mountain biodiversity in northern Albania. The project proposes using Geographical Indications to help economic actors promote products arising from local biodiversity, enable the generation of activities and incomes in mountain zones, and by so doing maintain the populations whose activities would then help preserve biodiversity.
The project has four components:
- establish regulations on GIs and biodiversity promotion;
- inventory products, study commodity chains, and support local actors ("pilot" GIs);
- implement on-site conservation; and coordinate actions with neighboring countries.
