Community-Based and Communal Contracting Authority Support Program in Nouakchott
|Start date||End date||Budget||Funding|
GRET has been providing local governments in Nouakchott with support since 2001. This support has taken the form of a household waste management program in the commune of Toujounine and, since 2006, throughout the Urban Community of Nouakchott. A commercial utilities for public use support unit was set up and then, in 2009, turned into a Study and Project Unit (SPU), composed of UCN engineers and technicians, to which GRET now provides technical assistance.
The activities are organized around four lines of work: the SPU’s institutional and functional organization (coordination, management, training), support for the implementation of the UCN’s water projects, facilitating the relationships between the UCN and communes (organizing exchange workshops, training courses for communes, project elaboration support fund), and urban information and communication (developing and managing an urban database, producing an urban atlas, running the UCN’s information and documentation center).
