The present cooperation between ICIMOD and GRET aims to focus on comprehensive capacity building of local NGOs (in particular Chin Organisation for Rural and Agricultural Development, CORAD, which is the implementing organization), local government line departments and local producer groups including women and CBOs in Chin State to support transformation in shifting cultivation at the local level. A secondary objective of this cooperation is to support diversification of livelihood options through consolidation and further strengthening of identified farm and non-farm products value chain in Chin State by identifying the key linkages in the supply chain.
The outputs of the projects are as following :
- The intervention will build capacities of CORAD and other local NGOs, government line departments to better help farmers and producer groups linking with markets and take advantage of emerging opportunities.
- The intervention will also build the capacity of local NGOs, government line departments and women groups including CBOs to refine practices to better enable famers and decision makers to respond to challenges related to transformation in shifting cultivation and develop strategies addressing them through pilot.
- The study on value chain will feed into the consolidation of the existing value chain thus strengthening livelihood diversification.
- The trainings on water and soil management, shifting cultivation and Natural risk management (NRM) and state level sharing workshops will capacitate government line departments and other local NGOs and farmers in CORAD project areas.
