The objective of the Regional Integration, Market Access, and Agricultural Diversification in the WAEMU Zone: Policy Options for Competitive and Sustainable Dairy Commodity Chains"" project is to encourage research and exchange on dairy policies and improve regional collaboration. It aims to contribute to the emergence of national dairy development plans, product regulations, and coherent trade policies. For this, the project has set the specific objectives of: (i) producing regional scientific knowledge on dairy commodity chains; (ii) strengthening national and regional consultation for the elaboration of dairy-sector public policies; and (iii) helping train human resources involved in elaborating dairy policies and scientific research on the dairy sector. It is coordinated by ISRA-BAME in partnership with IER/Mali, CIRDES/Burkina Faso, Kakara/Niger and GRET/Senegal. The project also relies on regional and international partners: WAEMU, ECOWAS, CIRAD and ILRI.
GRET is more specifically in charge of supervising market analysis in Senegal, reflections on product quality management, regulations and inter-branch organisations. More generally, this project falls under the framework of the scientific network REPOL (Réseau régional de recherches sur les politiques laitières), and was set up by the Institut Sénégalais de Recherches Agricoles’ (ISRA) macroeconomic analysis office (BAME, Bureau d’analyses macro-économiques).
