The Action aims for Rwandan civil society organizations (CSOs) and Human Rights Defenders hold the government of Rwanda accountable for upholding its human rights obligations with regard to the right to health and non-discrimination for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Intersex (LGBTI) individuals and sex workers (SW) (overall objective). To achieve such an impact, Rwandan LGBTI and SW CBOs will conduct evidence-based advocacy as a united platform for their right to health and non-discrimination (specific objective/outcome).
The Action is led by Health Development Initiative (HDI), a Rwandese NGO devoted to the Right to Health for all, in partnership with Gret, with a funding from the European Union and GIZ.
The whole Action is devoted to the fulfilment, the respect and the protection of human rights and the promotion of action of non-discrimination with a human rights based approach to development. The Action envisions a climate where right holders (20 LGBTI and SW CBOs) and duty bearers (Government officials as well as other Human Rights and HIV/AIDS CSOs), respectfully, interact and debate human rights issues facing LGBTI and SW communities. The Action aims at informing policy making and policy reform, in the context of UPR, ICESCR and NSP reviews, based on evidence-based documentation of cases of discriminations.
